Nach 10 Jahren meldet sich die Berliner Psycho/Punkabilly-Institution MAD SIN zurück. Und ihr Comeback-Album „Unbreakable“ beweist, dass MAD SIN nichts verlernt haben.

Nach 10 Jahren meldet sich die Berliner Psycho/Punkabilly-Institution MAD SIN zurück. Und ihr Comeback-Album „Unbreakable“ beweist, dass MAD SIN nichts verlernt haben.

Nach 10 Jahren und ein paar Personalwechseln sind die Berliner MAD SIN zurück. Das Wichtigste dabei ist, dass Front-Hammer, Mastermind und Bandkopf Köfte (DeVille) an Bord ist. Daneben ist vom letzten Album nur Gründungsmitglied St. Valle zurück. Für ihr Comeback nehmen MAD SIN Rockabilly, Punk, Rock´n´Roll, Country und einige andere Einflüsse und machen daraus mit viel Spaß eine große Packung Abgeh-Hits. Das liegt auf der einen Seite daran, dass Köfte stimmlich absolut auf der Höhe ist und megapräsent ist. Da scheint die Pause gut getan zu haben. Köfte selber sagt dazu: “I needed this gap. I didn’t want to become the lame guy that lives on an old repertoire. The minute I can’t do it live anymore, or I can’t live by my motto on-stage or on-record, then it’s time to give up. I’ve been there and done that. Life’s been very good to me, but I haven’t been very good to life. I’m still standing, though. I’m surrounded by such great guys. We’re living it up real. We’re really feeling it. That’s what keeps me alive, and that’s what keeps the boys alive.”

Bei den Songs auf „Unbreakable“ gibt es ein cooles abwechslungsreiches Sammelsurium, das sich auf (hauptsächlich) der Basis Punk/Rockabilly mit Country-Einflüssen bewegt. Zu dem ungewöhnlichen Songwriting-Prozess von MAD SIN erzählt Köfte: “I came up with the ideas for the songs,” DeVille says. “I then presented them to Manny or Andy. That’s how we start. I always have the rhythm and lead guitars in my head. I write like how genius director Sergio Leone makes movies. I don’t wanna say I’m a genius – I guess I’m just very lazy. He’s got no script. I don’t either. The songs are in my head. I might hum the rhythm guitars, I might sing the lead guitar, and I might figure out the drums in my head, but in the world of making MAD SIN music, I have no demos. We build off of what’s in my head. OK, I might hum something into my phone, but that’s hardly a demo. I then explain my ideas to the boys. Sometimes, the guys come up with better ideas, and we use those ideas—my boys are so creative in so many ways. I would say that’s why everything sounds so fresh.”

Bei den Songs fällt ansonsten besonders die Variabilität auf, die in diesem Genre nicht immer gegeben ist. Besonders cool kommen direkt der energische Opener „Are You Ready?“ und das wild galoppierende „Aggression“ als Up-Tempo-Nummern rüber. Als Ohrwurm perfekt geeignet entpuppen sich das stimmungsvoll swingende „Shine A Light“ und die country-inspirierte Mitmachnummer “Moon Over Berlin”. Spaghetti-Western-Sound gibt es bei der Doppelnummer „The Long Hard Road Back From Hell” und “Unbreakable”. Thrash-angehauchte Gitarren und Power dürfen bei „Till Death Do Us Part“ zu schlagen. Genauso deftig geht es bei „Memento Mori“ zu. Flotten Rock´n´Roll gibt es bei dagegen „All My Friends“. Der energiegeladene MAD SIN-Comeback-Song, der perfekt ins Live-Programm passen wird, ist „Totgesagte Leben Länger“, eine von zwei deutschsprachigen Nummern. Es gibt aber auch irgendwie schräge und witzige Songs, wie die Grusel/Horror-Punk-Nummer „Hallucinate“, das spacige „Kill Girl“ und das kraftvolle „House Of Fun“.

Wer aber denkt, dass es nur um Spaß und flotte Rhythmen geht, irrt. Auf „Unbreakable“ haben MAD SIN in ihren Texten Botschaften eingebaut, die ihnen am Herzen liegen. Frontmann Köfte sagt dazu: “We’re not a fun band, but we love fun, and we love to have fun. Lyrically, we bring certain messages in metaphoric ways. There’s always a deeper, anarchistic meaning to our lyrics. We do carry a message, and often you have to read between the lines to understand the message. The lyrics have been in my head for such a long time. Every song on Unbreakable has a message or a meaning. I would like for the lyrics to have a different meaning to our fans than they do to me. That’s important.”

Anhörtipp ist diesbezüglich sicherlich das wortgewandte „Alles Ist Schlecht“.

Insgesamt sind MAD SIN enorm stark zurück. Mit zeitgemäßem Sound und frischen Ideen zeigen Köfte und seine Jungs, wie man klasse Musik mit Spaß und Message macht. Jetzt wird es nur noch Zeit, dass MAD SIN auch live wieder Gas geben dürfen.
