Today is the day, we board the Independence of the Seas to celebrate 4 days with 3000 other metalheads, to be pampered with culinary delights and to enjoy the finest metalmusic. The weather, it was said, would be a bit cooler in the short term and warm clothes should not be missing in the travel bag. The excitement at the uncertainty that should await us had reached its peak.

Although we had checked in at a hotel in Miami South Beach four days before the cruise and a group of dear friends had prepared us for everything, the tension increased every day.

Now the day had come when we should board the second largest cruise ship in the world. The weather was actually a bit cool, but that didn’t affect our mood in the slightest.

Full of anticipation, we gathered in front of the hotel on the morning of the day of departure to take a bus that was organized for us by one of our cruise-experienced friends, Pascal, to the port.

In a good mood and with pleasant metal sound, we were carted to Fort Lauderdale, where we had to undergo some official controls before we were allowed to enter the gigantic boat. One or the other had to give up some alcoholic supplies that were accidentally left in hand luggage and then it was time: we reached our cabins by elevator, inspected the cozy little well-designed rooms that were supposed to be our home for the next 4 days then on our way to see the ship. Our friends gave us a loving guidance and detailed information about all possibilities on board. We couldn’t be amazed enough at the enormous range of the luxury liner.

A wellness center, casino, amusement arcade, two restaurants whose use is included in the cruise price (and a few others that are subject to a charge), pools, whirlpools, a water slide, a wakeboard spot, an Irish pub, a coffee house and much more. Then the boat took off and we were able to look back at Fort Lauderdale and the Miami skyline at a beautiful sunset. We also put a few photos in the photo gallery for you.

After the guided tour and a romantic sunset marvel, we decided to eat in the buffet restaurant for the first time. To eat? The word actually doesn’t really fit. That was more like an almost decadent VIP dinner. 🙂 The food offer was enormously varied and there was enough for every taste. A vegan station, 5 or 6 mixed stations with meat, fish and vegetarian dishes from all over the world, desserts to the point and in an unbelievable range of colors, a range of fruits that leaves nothing to be desired – simply brilliant!

But a metal cruise isn’t just good food – although that’s very important. 🙂 Of course, music also plays an important role. You can see which bands the METALOGY.de Team saw on day 1 in the photo gallery. Our favorite of the day was Devin Townsend. But all other bands also created a great atmosphere and gave sensational gigs. The locations where the bands performed were all pleasant – we could choose between comfortably upholstered seating and the pit. The so-called pool stage in the outdoor area was formerly opened on day 2, but the three other stages were more than enough.

The change in air, all the food and the excitement totally destroyed us. So our evening ended worthily at 2:30 with Soilwork, which delivered a great gig as always.

Heute ist es soweit, wir gehen an Bord der Independence of the Seas, um mit 3000 weiteren Metalheads 4 Tage lang zu feiern, sich kulinarisch verwöhnen zu lassen und Musik vom Feinsten zu genießen. Lest hier, was wir am ersten Tag der metallischen Luxus-Kreuzfahrt unter dem Banner 70000tons of Metal erlebt haben. Dazu gibt es auch eine Fotostrecke der Eindrücke des ersten Tages unter dem Text.

Das Wetter, so hieß es, würde kurzfristig etwas kühler und warme Klamotten sollten in der Reisetasche nicht fehlen. Die Aufregung angesichts des Ungewissen, das uns erwarten sollte, hatte ihren Höhepunkt erreicht.

Obwohl wir bereits vier Tage vor der Kreuzfahrt in einem Hotel in Miami South Beach eingecheckt hatten und dort von einem Rudel lieber Freunde auf alles bestens vorbereitet wurden, stieg die Spannung mit jedem Tag.

Nun war der Tag gekommen an dem wir an Bord des zweitgrößten Kreuzfahrtschiffes der Welt gehen sollten. Das Wetter war tatsächlich etwas kühl, was unsere Stimmung aber nicht im Geringsten beeinflusste.

Voller Vorfreude sammelten wir uns am Vormittag des Abreisetages vor dem Hotel, um mit einem Bus, den einer unserer kreuzfahrterfahrenen Freunde, Pascal, für uns organisiert hatte, in Richtung Hafen zu fahren.

Gut gelaunt und mit angenehmer Metal-Beschallung wurden wir nach Fort Lauderdale gekarrt, wo wir uns einigen behördlichen Kontrollen unterziehen mussten, bevor wir das gigantische Boot betreten durften. Der eine oder andere musste noch einige alkoholische Vorräte abgeben, die versehentlich im Handgepäck vergessen wurden und dann war es soweit: wir erreichten per Lift unsere Kabinen, besichtigten die gemütlichen kleinen bestens durchdachten Zimmerchen, die für die nächsten 4 Tage unser Zuhause sein sollten und machten uns dann auf den Weg das Schiff zu besichtigen. Unsere Freunde gaben uns eine liebevolle Führung und ausführliche Informationen zu allen Möglichkeiten an Bord. Wir konnten gar nicht genug staunen über das enorme Angebot des Luxusliners.

Ein Wellnesscenter, ein Casino, eine Spielhalle, zwei Restaurants, deren Nutzung im Cruisepreis inkludiert ist (und einige weitere, die kostenpflichtig sind), Pools, Whirlpools, eine Wasserrutsche, ein Wakeboardspot, ein Irish Pub, ein Kaffeehaus und vieles mehr. Dann legte das Boot ab und wir konnten gleich mal bei wunderschönem Sonnenuntergang auf Fort Lauderdale und die Skyline von Miami zurückblicken. Auch dazu haben wir euch ein paar Fotos in die Fotostrecke getan.

Nach Führung und romantischem Sonnenuntergangsbestaunen beschlossen wir im Buffetrestaurant zum ersten Mal zu essen. Zu essen? Das Wort passt eigentlich gar nicht so richtig. Das war wohl mehr ein fast schon dekadentes VIP-Dinieren. 🙂 Das Essensangebot war enorm vielfältig und für jeden Geschmack gab es ausreichend. Eine vegane Station, 5 oder 6 gemischte Stationen mit Fleisch, Fisch und vegetarischen Speisen aus aller Herren Länder, Nachspeisen bis zum Abwinken und in einer unglaublichen Farbenpracht, ein Obstangebot bei dem kein Wunsch offen bleibt – schlichtweg genial!

Aber eine Metalkreuzfahrt besteht ja nicht nur aus gutem Essen – obwohl das schon sehr wichtig ist. 🙂 Eine wesentliche Rolle spielt natürlich auch die Musik. Welche Bands das METALOGY-Team an Tag 1 gesehen hat, seht ihr an den Fotos. Unser Favorit des Tages war Devin Townsend. Aber auch alle anderen Bands sorgten für mega Stimmung und gaben sensationelle Gigs. Auch die Locations, wo die Bands auftraten waren allesamt angenehm – Man konnte wählen zwischen gemütlich gepolsterter Bestuhlung und dem Pit. Die sogenannte Pool Stage im Außenbereich wurde erst an Tag 2 geöffnet.

Die Luftveränderung, das viele Essen und die Aufregung machte uns total platt. So endete unser Abend würdig um 2h30 mit Soilwork, die wie immer einen super Gig ablieferten.
