YGODEH mit drittem Album „Clinic of Maleficent“

Seid bereit für musikalische Experimente und neue Auslotungen der Interpretation des Death Metal. YGODEH führen euch mit ihrem dritten Album „Clinic of Maleficent“durch ein wildes Tech Death Metal Labyrinth mit progressiv avantgardistischen Abzweigungen. Faszinierend, wie Mr. Spock sagen würde.

Mit ihrem dritten Album „Clinic of Maleficent“ nehmen YGODEH den Zuhörer mit auf eine wilde Reise durch musikalisch progressive Death Metal Experimente. Knallharter Tech Death Metal wird hier avantgardistisch und progressiv munter mit Stilelementen gemixt, die in dieser Kombination durchaus ungewöhnlich sind.

Eines sei aber von vorne herein klar gestellt. YGODEH verstehen ihr musikalisches Handwerk und können geilen Death Metal spielen. Beides zusammen mit einem gehörigen Schuss Kreativität ergibt ein sehr interessantes Gesamtwerk.

Ygodeh

Spannend wird die Sache vor allem durch die progressive Spielweise und avantgardistische Songstrukturen. Der Gesang kommt größtenteils in Form Death Metal-typischer Growls daher. Dazwischen mischen sich aber immer wieder Spoken Words. Das passt hervorragend zu der Death Metal-orientierten Spielart der Gitarre und des Schlagzeugs.

Kritisch wird es dann leider was den Einsatz von Synthesizern und Samples anbetrifft. An manchen Stellen werden diese sehr gelungen eingesetzt, an anderen wiederum wirkt eben genau das ein wenig sinnbefreit und ohne musikalischen Nährwert. Direkt zu Beginn kommen die Keyboards als klassisches Klavier daher (Translucent vision of I). Danach wird es mal techno-mäßig (Molecules of Containment), mal kirmesmäßig (Clinic of Maleficent), mal symphonisch orchestral (Ballad Experiment) und auch immer wieder abwechslungsreich in verschiedensten Färbungen.

Die experimentelle Symbiose verschiedener Klangwelten führt teils zu genialen Auswüchsen. Spätestens beim dritten Durchgang haben sich Molecules of Containment, Ballad Experiment oder Time and Space_2 (Anspieltipps) mit drogenartiger Wirkung in den Gehirnwindungen festgesetzt und lassen einen nicht mehr los.

Leider gelingen die Experimente auch nicht immer. Ein wildes Durcheinander bietet sich bei „Silent Scream Fade“ und „Sole Deconstructor“, wobei man beides noch als experimentelle Klangwelten verstehen könnte. Fragment 4.2 passt meiner Meinung nach nicht ideal zum Gesamtwerk das die einzelnen Parts der Scheibe ergeben.

Hervorzuheben sei, dass das Album einen hervorragenden Sound hat, der die experimentelle Spielfreudigkeit von YGODEH sehr unterstützt.

Abschließend sei gesagt: Clinic of Maleficent wird am ehesten den Prog Metaller ansprechen, der auch seinen Spaß an Amon Amarth hat. Death Metal Puristen dagegen werden sich mit dieser Scheibe wohl schwer anfreunden können.

Biography

“YGODEH” was founded in October of 2009 by Pavel Stepanov aka “Piton” after scrapping his previous symphonic metal band “Disease”, which is reported to be the longest lived metal project in Daugavpils up to now and having a pivotal influence on the local rock-scene.

Dawn Of The Technological Singularity – 2011

He invited Victor “Feka” Rinkevich (ex-“SvinKTR”) to perform the vocal and lyrics writing duties, thus, forming the core of the band. Right from the start “YGODEH” proved a daring challenge to the stylistic versatility and compositional complexity mainly due to Pitons passion for experimentation and extensive use of additional symphonic elements. England-based drummer Vadim Vetrin aka “Vadozz”, who previously played together with Piton in “Disease” joined and recorded the percussion fills.

The only problem the band encountered at the time was territorial which was resolved when Piton relocated to London, England to be with Vadozz and soon to be bassist Roman Maksimov aka “Stalker”, also from previous metal band “Disease”… and so the search began for a new vocalist to replace Feka who remains in Daugavpils.

The Experiment Interrupted – 2013

In February 2012, Ygodeh found just that in Andre .S Cura aka “Serberus” (BlackDespair), allowing them to perform for the first time as a live band on stage at Surface festival 2012. Receiving nothing but great responses from audiences they began recording their second album with Serberus. With his mechanical vocal delivery it made the second album a step into the experimental direction. It landed them as the most played band in the Russian Heavy Metal Guide February 2013.

Inside The Womb Of Horizonless Dystopia – 2014

Enter summer 2014 and the creation of their highly anticipated third album. An album which, upon release, immediately granted them a slot in one of London’s most infamous underground showcases.

To put it simply, this album has raised the bar and changed the game for all upcoming and current metal bands cementing Ygodeh as a force to be reckoned with in the underground scene and only time will tell when they take this intelligent creation on European soil in the fall of 2014.

Clinic Of Maleficent – 2016

After the chaos and huge success of the Latvian tour in 2014. A cloud set over Ygodeh and after a only 1 show in four months the heart of the four members was tested as both Stalker and Vaddozz decided to leave the quartet.

Despite this, the two remaining members decided to continue and work on the next album for the band with the addition of original bassist Alex (Aal) who provided a fresh, technical and more professional approach to bass.

And gradually the three churned out what is perhaps the most in depth and solid album so far, Clinic Of Maleficent. An album which stands out from their previous not only in its musicianship but as evidence that YGODEH is forming into something alot more powerful than the enigma that once surrounded it.
