Some words in Englisch

They break the rules, reinvent themselves with every album and are considered to be Gothenburg’s brightest metal pearl – since the early 90’s, IN FLAMES have delivered a spectacular band progression which has seen them transform their sound from classic Melodic Death Metal to their current modern and unique style. The Swedes never cease to challenge their artistic boundaries, never looking back and taking every possible risk.

While their early work was dominated by growling vocals and intense speed, IN FLAMES soon developed a progressive approach to their music, adding clean vocals to the choruses and creating unforgettable hymns such as ‘The Quiet Place’ or ‘Trigger’. And since the band is never standing still, it was time for them to build a monument in honor of their current sound – the result is the exquisite »Sounds From The Heart Of Gothenburg« DVD, before the band move on to other shores with their next full length record, which is due this autumn. The explosive live performance was filmed in November 2014, in front of a sold-out venue of 10,000 fans, right inside the Scandinavium – in the heart of their hometown Gothenburg, Sweden. The decision to preserve this home town show for all eternity on DVD was an easy one for the band: „It’s our home town and it’s awesome to give something back to the city where we started,” singer Anders Fridén explains. “It’s a great venue to play and after the recording I realized that we don’t know how long the old Scandinavium will still exist – it’s going to be nice to have a memoir of that place, because it’s such a legendary stadium. I went to tons of metal shows there over the past few decades; I’ve seen all my favorite bands there.” With a setlist of 20 songs and more than one and a half hours of live action, the Swedes tear through their entire band history. The newer songs ‘Through Oblivion’ and ‘Rusted Nail’ hammer down onto the heads of the fans, who know every lyric by heart, but of course the band also includes old school classics such as ‘Cloud Connected’ or the mind-blowing finisher ‘Take This Life’, to leave a sea of headbangers inside the giant arena.

The tracklist choice is never easy with 11 albums under their belt, but the band knows how to find a good mixture: “If we played the songs from every album, this would be a very long night… But this DVD is for everyone who has been following our career; we have songs from the early years, the middle years and the new era. It has to be fun for us to play but also fun for the audience to watch and we try to get a good flow with nice dynamics and different songs,” says axemaster Björn Gelotte and Anders adds: “We’ve been around for twenty-five years now and we gather all sorts of people. We have a huge variety in our audience and that’s awesome. The music we play seems to attract young people, but it always did, so today we see the kids of our early fans and in 15 years we will see the sons and daughters of the teenagers today. We seem to be a gateway to heavy metal, since we play aggressive, yet accessible music. Our audience grows with us and that makes us lucky.”

Once again, IN FLAMES chose none other than Patric Ullaeus as director, who has been the creative force behind multiple music videos for the band, including their double- DVD »Used And Abused – In Live We Trust« and the clip for ‘Take This Life’ – which has now been watched over 15 million times on Youtube! After such a long and successful shared history, the band didn’t hesitate long in making a decision: “Patric knows us, he has a great vision and we completely trust his way of shooting. He doesn’t bother us on stage, he knows when we need our privacy, but also when to invade our privacy.” The result of this collaboration is once again a thrilling performance with raging pyro effects, a sea of glowing mobile phones in the dark during the melancholic ‘With Eyes Wide Open‘, circle pits and flying crowd surfers. During this incredible home town show, the bearded gentlemen don’t allow their fans to breathe for more than a second, and deliver a charming appetizer for their next album, due at the end of this year. Once again, the band plays with haunting melodies, faces a few new horizons, but without scaring their loyal fans away. “As soon as you hear the first two bars of the new single from the upcoming album, you will totally know it’s IN FLAMES!” But first it’s time to open your eyes… and dive into the unique sound of Gothenburg.“
